I’m starting to rather like my brother’s boy racer Malibu.

There’s already been a couple occasions where I’ve taken it somewhere instead of my S10. And I’m surprised with how gutsy the EcoTec feels. I was expecting it to be slower and drive worse than it does.

Side note: This is the first GM product I’ve come across with stalk-mounted light controls, usually they do a knob on the dash.

I’d just be happy that it has 2 stalks. My Wife’s Buick has a single stalk for everything and it drives me nuts.

I bought an Oldsmobile Alero instead of the Grand Am because I hated the Pontiac’s dashboard. It’s like the Grand Am is trying too hard.

Just CD, I don’t know when they phased out the tape part. They updated the radio options in ‘04 so I guess then.

My ‘99 had tape and CD since it was a fully optioned GT1. I felt so fancy.

If this had tape my brother probably wouldn't remove it, but he wants an aux input and STL has so many radio stations that an FM transmitter won't work. So out comes this rather nice head unit.

Yeah, but you have to take your hand off the wheel to operate it. with dual stalks, you don’t need to remove your hand from the steering wheel to operate the stalks.

It actually wasn’t that bad. The panel fit wasn’t the best, but the dash was soft and everything was laid out correctly. Plus, the gauge cluster lights were blue and white, not the anger-inducing reddish-orange of the Grand Am.

The only thing I have to take my hand off the wheel to do is the wiper speed, and even on the ones in the Grand Am you have to do that to adjust the intermittent setting.

From what I remember, there was my M3, an OG X5, and an E39 on the BMW front. One beat to hell Mercedes C-Class liftback thing they made to rival the ti, and a riced A4 that smoked like no tomorrow.

Those headunits all have their displays go out eventually, though. Only a matter of time. That, and the CD laser gets dirty to it won’t read anything.

Don’t feel bad. That Ecotec is a good motor. It’s a shame they never put a version of it in the S-10, because the 2.2 in those was freaking junk.

I had a 97 grand prix. Red gauges make my heart flutter a little. That car tried to kill me multiple times but I still really loved it. Late 90s pontiac really nailed the allusion to sportiness without having any kind of sporting chops. It’s the “yeah!? well my dad...” of cars.
